Who am I? Jen Viloria. Child of God. Filipina. Lover of music, writing, and people. Well, not to mention I went to Montgomery High School in Skillman, NJ. I currently attend Rutgers University and am studying to be a Computer Engineer. blah, blah, blah...like all that really says anything...don't you hate when people try to classify you into some "type" of person? For once, I'd like someone to ask "What do you love?" instead of "What do you do?"
How did I start writing? You'd be surprised what a young girl can do when she has nothing better planned. So I guess it started with journals...then my multiple personalities screamed to be put on paper, so I wrote a short story or two...maybe a novel, but that's hardly worth mentioning...rather embarrassing actually...then of course, the really bad poetry that all artsy-fartsy high-schoolers write when they have no other outlet to emotions that they have no control over. Hey, it was a start. So then I started college, and found God in a church called Harvest...three years later, I feel my calling to write Him a book of psalms/prayers...so here I am...on my way to fulfilling my role in life, whatever that may be.
How did you become "saved"? So I had this friend Joyce who I knew since second grade...we ended up both going to Rutgers, but we lost touch since we hung out with different people. Then on a late night (as most nights in college are) in a small dorm-room, she shared with me. Somehow something had touched her and it made her alive. I'd known her most of my life and I knew this was no act, just a peace that I knew I had no grasp of. So then she started taking me to this church, now known as Harvest International Center, and here I am almost 3 years later...in love with a Lord who's in love with me.
What kind of music do you like? Just about everything....Yeah, that includes country not to mention jazz, classical, broadway tunes, r&b, hip-hop, rap, reggae, oldies, rock, even pop tunes (not including Britney Spears...ick...) I suppose the only thing I can't tolerate is really hard metal and alternative and/or punk...if it doesn't have a phat beat or a kickin' melody, too bad...
Who are your favorite authors? I like suspense novels, mysteries, and most of all english-class type literature and poetry. John Sandford captured me with his "Prey" series...really cool action so much that it was like watching a movie play in my imagination...then of course I had my teenage angst and pain days of reading Anne Rice who was awesome with the earlier vampire series...Then of course there was Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child with The Relic and a whole lot of other cool stuff...And now literature and poetry...hmmm...One day my chorus teacher gave me a small soft-cover book of this lady, Maya Angelou...I didn't fully appreciate the gift until much later...then of course my love, Shakespeare...if I could act I'd be Goneril from King Lear or maybe Ophelia from Hamlet fits better? ...and a recent favorite, Emily Dickinson...Oh definitely can't forget the Filipino author who brings nationalism to a new level...F. Sionil Jose...I was cheering in patriotism for a country that I don't even feel a connection to...I loved the description of the people...now that's true *pinoy power!*...
Who are your friends? Well, of course, I'd have to give shout-outs to all mah Sistahs...Jois, friends 4 life...my all-grown-up Kat (who knew?)...Joy "Worship Diva" Huang (btw, we gotta talk about stuff other than school and boys)...Miss Eeyore...a.k.a "Salty Espalto" whose voice COMPELS...the REAL J.Lo (not Jennifer Lopez, Jane Lo, a genius with her crock pot)....Christine, you hottie! keep those boys at bay! ... Yonnie, my chica to have fun with...we'll make that calendar yet! ... Maria, oh, dude, you have that administrative thing down...big on the details, girl...oh...and I suppose I have to mention my brothahs... my older brother who I will always call Kuya no matter what....a.k.a Jonathan (his adult name) and my Bros in Christ... DaHoBo Boyz keepin' it real...Senor Howie (my younger brother in age, my older brother in spirit, and my superior height-wise), Senor Bob, and Big Daddy D, Malaysian Soul himself. Evan "William Wallace" Lew, mighty worship leader...Hoj who got the hotel hookups and the 411 on all the good stocks...my bestest guyfriend through high-school Zimmy...we were through so much together! Oh and the Monty Crew, Class of '98...I can't forget my man Smith...remember roses, and putting on instant bronzer backstage? And of course my Lieutenant Cable, Mike...who could forget our little hut? Oh, and I can't forget my partner in un-girlyness - Walden...you and all your boys *sigh* Zube, awesome times at AL...playing Starcraft in Bio...hahaha...ummm...sheesh...I hope I didn't forget anyone... ::sheepish look on Jen's face::
Are you single? Will you go out with me? Well, of course. NOT. I mean, yes I'm single. And I plan to stay that way...until God sends me a husband. If you don't have a clue what that means, read some cheezy book on courtship...In any case, I don' t intend to be "swoony" over ANYONE anytime soon. So FAT CHANCE. :)
